William Beckwith’s accumulating works were heading for publication in what would have been the first ‘Birds of Shropshire’ but he died in 1892, suddenly, at the age of 48, without completing it. This book begins with an account of him and his and times and goes on to present all his published work. The book, designed by Peter Tucker, harks back to those times using Thomas Bewick’s wood engravings – his birds and many of his entertaining endpieces.

Two copies of the book are lodged with the hard copy file boxes of Histo.
