2018 Ornithological Field Journal of Charles Gawen, Vol.2. 1888 to 1911.

Thankfully, when Nigel McGewan found the little handwritten journal in his late mother’s library in 2017, he conveyed it to the SOS. John Tucker organised first the transcription of the 327 page text (funded by the SOS) and later its publication, 30 copies, designed by Peter Tucker, using a few wood-engraving illustrations by Thomas Bewick. The development of the book was kindly sponsored by the SOS. The original journal is lodged in the Shropshire Archives (ref. M19430/1) along with a copy of the book.

The whereabouts of Gawen’s Vol. 1 is unknown.

Two copies of the book are lodged with the hard copy file boxes of Histo.
